AQA GCSE Maths Past Papers 2012 to 2017

Please find the exam papers at the bottom of this page. The exam papers on this page are all from The AQA GCSE Higher Maths syllabus 4365 which ran between 2012 and 2017. This was then replaced by the current GCSE Syllabus 8300. This was before numerical grades 9-1 were introduced.


Linear AQA GCSE 2012-2017 Format of Course

Schools would decide whether to enter students for the the Linear syllabus (4365) or the Unitised/Modular Syllabus (4360). This webpage contains all the exam papers from the AQA GCSE Maths Linear 4365 syllabus.
Students would either be entered for the higher tier or Foundation tier. On the higher tier, students would be able to achieved Grades between A* and D. On the foundation tier, students would be able to achieve a Grade C to G.

Exam Format

Students would sit two exam papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Paper 1 was a 70 mark non calculator paper worth 40% of your final grade weighting. The duration of the exam was 75 minutes for Foundation and 90 minutes for Higher.
Paper 2 was a 105 mark calculator paper and was worth 60% of the final grade weighting. The duration of the exam was 105 minutes for Foundation and 120 minutes for Higher.

There were three types of questions in each exam:

  1. Recall and using knowledge of content – 45-55%
  2. Selecting and applying Mathematical methods – 25-35%
  3. Interpreting and analysing problems and solving – 15-25%

Calculators Allowed

Students were allowed a calculator in Paper 2 but calculators were not as advanced as they are today. A common calculator used for this course was the Casio FX85 and Casio FX85. We have recently done a review of the Best Calculators for GCSE Maths
